Smile: The Movie
Let me tell you something about the movie “Smile”. Pain is something that Rose ( played by Sosie Bacon), a youthful clinical psychiatrist, comprehends, having seen her mother’s suicide many years before. So when a hysterical patient ( played by Caitlin Stasey) argues that she is being stalked by a murderous, shape-shifting thing — and that this ghost appeared only after she witnessed an acquaintance brutally kill himself — Rose is instantly empathetic. What happens following is so scary it will not only restore old terrors but engender fresh ones, destabilizing Rose and everyone near to her.
“Smile’s” most remarkable asset is its persistent, oppressive grimness. This is a movie where children and pets are as weak as adults, and the horror aspects are bloodstained and disturbing to reach the dark themes. This unsparing sensibility is improved by Bacon’s shaky, vulnerable performance as Rose: At one point, she calls at Trevor, “I am not crazy!” then mutters an apology and looks down at her shoes in embarrassment. At another, her sickly smile at her nephew’s birthday party stands as both a bleak counterpoint to the disgusted grin the entity’s targets see before they die, as well as a relatable point for viewers who have reluctantly confused their way via similar gatherings amid a depressive episode. This movie ‘smile’ will be in theaters on 30 September 2022. There has been no word yet on when this new Smile film will be coming on streaming. As it stands, it does not look like the viewers will be able to watch the movie from home, at least for the moment being.
