MediaTek Dimensity 800U- Everything you need to know!
MediaTek has been a well known chipset manufacturing company for many years now. Before the advent of MediaTek it was Qualcomm that enjoyed a monopoly in the chipset segment while that picture underwent a change with the birth of MediaTek. Not only did the latter come as a new company looking to form a base for itself but it also proved to be the biggest competitor for Qualcomm. For anyone who is well equipped with the facts of chipsets would know that every time we have a new chipset from either of the two companies, a comparison is always followed. There is a constant comparison made between the chipsets of these manufacturers in almost every single aspect and of every single price point which, in my opinion, is healthy and also very informative actually. It helps the users to make all the more informed opinions and decisions about which one’s faster, better, more powerful and worth spending money on.
5G has been the recent trend and all the chipset manufacturers have been running in a race to launch the best chipsets and also to be the first to do the same. And there is no surprise that most of the forerunners namely, MediaTek, Exynos, Snapdragon have been quite successful in doing so. MediaTek released Dimensity 800U SoC featuring 120Hz refresh rate, 5G dual-SIM support, higher frequency of the upper cores compared to Dimensity 800. Dimensity 800 being its older brother basically. Dimensity 800U does have a lot going on for itself. . It has an octa-core, dual-cluster design (2+6). There are 2 x high-performance Cortex-A76 cores running @2.4GHz and 6 x power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores running @2.0GHz. Dimensity 800U is more on the power-efficient side, while Dimensity 800 is on the performance side. Though, the single core performance of 800U is greater than 800. Dimensity 800U is on the mid-performance ARM Mali-G57. This will be suitable for low to mid-end.
The Dimensity 800U features an integrated 5G modem which is manufactured using TSMC’s low power 7nm production process. The processor is extremely power-efficient and won’t drain your phone’s battery unnecessarily. Coupled with MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave technology, it manages the modem’s operating module in real-time to switch between 5G and 4G to give you the best connectivity levels at all times.
Octa-core SoC with two ARM Cortex-A76 Big cores which clock at 2.4GHz. This helps the processor to increase game loading and multitasking which is quite impressive when you realize the price bracket that it falls under.
Unlike most 5G phones today that work on single-SIM only, the MediaTek Dimensity 800U gives two SIM cards in 5G making it all the more feasible and practical for the users. This processor lets OEMs opt for a refresh rate of 120Hz which gives gamers an edge in their gameplay without any interruptions and hassle. Apart from gaming, regular media consumption is excellent as it’s powered by MediaTek’s MiraVision which enhances SDR content in real-time to match HDR playback. Dimensity 800U is therefore an amazing and super powerful chipset in all.
The processor supports 64MP sensors that can capture all sorts of delicate details in an image, especially when combined with its built-in AI processor which can take brilliant low-light shots.
MediaTek has certainly done a great job at not just integrating the best of features and properties into its chipset but it has also priced it right.
