MediaTek had taken it upon themselves to bring in the 6nm sized processors into the mix and it has undoubtedly done so successfully. The Dimensity 1200 is the more powerful one out of the two new chipsets that have been launched. The other being, Dimensity 1100. The Dimensity 1200 chipset flaunts an impressive set of properties that guarantees powerful performance.

While most of the manufacturers have made a jump from launching 7nm chipsets to 5nm chipset, MediaTek decided to take a different route and come up with two 6nm chipsets. While 5nm chipsets are obviously better, however, I think with the two 6nm chipsets, users are offered with all the more options to choose from in terms of power-efficient and affordable 5G processors. The two chipsets are namely. Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200. Dimensity 1200 being the higher variant of the two.

This particular chipset is a great addition to the Dimensity 1000 series as well as to the whole of 5G segment. With this chipset and the Dimensity 1100 too, MediaTek has offered two more powerful and power-efficient 5G chipset to the users to choose from. Let’s take a look at the specifications of the Dimensity 1200 chipset.

MediaTek has opted for a triple-level CPU arrangement with the Dimensity 1200, featuring one Cortex-A78 CPU clocked at 3Ghz, three Cortex-A78 CPUs at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A55 CPUs at 2GHz.

CPU: 1x Cortex-A78 @ 3GHz, 3x Cortex-A78 @ 2.6GHz, 4x Cortex-A55 @ 2GHz

GPU: Arm Mali-G77 MP9

Display: 168Hz at FHD+

90Hz at QHD+

Camera: 200MP single

32MP+16MP dual

4K/60fps recording

Process: 6nm

Dimensity 1200 consists of ARM Cortex-A78 ultra core, having the capability of clocking a speed of up to 3GHz with 2X L2 cache.

The chipset also has four ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores with a speed of up to 2GHz, and three ARM Cortex-A78 super cores clocking up to 2.6GHz.

For graphics, the Dimensity 1200 SoC makes use of ARM Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. It also supports UFS 3.1 storage, along with a maximum of 16GB LDDR4x memory.

And, as mentioned before, it is integrated with the MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 gaming technology.

The Dimensity 1200 supports 200MP photos for stunning photography with its five-core HDR-ISP. It boasts staggered 4K HDR video capture for significantly greater dynamic range. The chipset integrates an updated version of MediaTek’s hexa-core AI processor (MediaTek APU 3.0), which has an enhanced multi-task scheduler that reduces latency and improves power-efficiency. The chipset supports AI camera features including AI-Panorama Night Shot, AI Multi-Person Bokeh, AI noise reduction (AINR) and HDR capabilities. The chipsets also support new AI-enhanced video playback features including AI SDR-to-HDR. Therefore, one can expect the best of picture quality along with an uninterrupted performance in all the other aspects as well. Any phone that would be powered by the Dimensity 1200 chipset would definitely be a good camera phone as well. This chipset is equipped with superb camera enhancements and will deliver the best of performance.

As for the connectivity features, the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC includes Bluetooth 5.2, multi-mode 5G, 4G, GPS, Radio as well as Wi-Fi 6.

Along with this, the chipset is also integrated with the MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 gaming technology which includes 5G call and data concurrency for more reliable connectivity, plus multi-touch boost touchscreen responsiveness.

We already have a few smartphones with this chipset. While it hasn’t even been long that the company has launched these new chipsets, we already have hints of witnessing the launch of new smartphones that would be powered by these chipsets. Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi and Realme would soon be launching phones running on these Dimensity SoCs, Realme has announced that it would be among the first manufacturers to release a flagship smartphone running on the Dimensity 1200. Therefore, we sure do have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
